Each year, the Office of Student Activities and a student steering committee sponsor Redefining Community Experience (RCE). This three-day retreat brings students together to examine the Washington University community through the lenses of leadership and diversity. Students can discuss and work to change issues that they have witnessed or experienced first-hand.
When: January 15-17, 2010
Where: Mercy Conference and Retreat Center (just outside the City of St. Louis)
Who: Undergraduate students from all years, majors, and disciplines who want to grow, learn, and generate new ideas about being a positive change agent on campus and in the larger community.
What: The weekend will be spent engaging in large and small group activities and dialogues. Our time together is designed to:
- Spark conversation
- Encourage students to expand their comfort zones
- Create a safe space for this type of intense discussion
- Allow individuals to share their personal stories
- View situations through different lenses
- Inspire positive social action through developing action plans for making meaningful change on campus and within the larger community
- Engage participants in personal exploration
- Focus on improving and changing university departments, organizations, and student groups
Cost: FREE! Redefining Community Experience is FREE to all Washington University students; this includes overnight accommodations at the Mercy Conference & Retreat Center, group transportation and all meals while at the retreat center. Participants must stay for the duration of the retreat.
Once accepted, students have until December 4th to cancel their registration. After December 4th, students will be charged $100 for canceling or failing to show up at the retreat.

- November 20th - Registration Closes
- November 23rd - Notification of Status
- December 4th - Last Day to Cancel Without Penalty Fee of $100
- January 15-17th - RCE Retreat
