What happens at RCE?
  • Activities to spark conversation and inspire positive action. "REAL" dialogue about community and the differences and similarities within a community.
  • Spirited discussion surrounding topics of community, leadership, and diversity, and acknowledgment of the complexity of the issues.
  • Exploration of the richness and values of commonalities and differences across societies, cultures, and nations.
  • A learning environment that fosters the understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives, including values, opinions, cultures, nationalities, ethnic groups, genders, ages, and sexual orientations.
  • Personal reflection.

What can I gain from participating in RCE?
  • An opportunity to engage in activities that intensely examine the issues facing our community and to develop an action plan for making meaningful change on our campus.
  • Respectful, dynamic interactions among people who differ in cultural background, ethnicity, belief systems, or other factors.
  • Enriched educational experience via the opportunity to learn from individuals who differ from you.
  • Expansion of individual boundaries, and awareness and appreciation for diverse perspectives within the Washington University in St. Louis' community.

How much does it cost to attend RCE?
RCE is FREE to all Washington University students; this includes overnight accommodations, transportation and meals. However, once accepted, students have until December 4th to cancel their registration. After December 4th, students will be charged $100 for canceling or failing to show up at the retreat.

Who plans RCE?
The Office of Student Activities in conjunction with a student steering committee.

How many people attend RCE?
30-40 students and 4 Faculty or Staff.
